Dr. Ronald Fletcher

Dr. Ronald Darling “Ron” Fletcher, 85, of Fayetteville, PA passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at The Village of Laurel Run. Born January 18, 1933, in Foxboro, MA, he was the son of the late Howard W. and Ada Darling Fletcher.

Dr. Fletcher was a graduate of the University of Connecticut, earning his Bachelor’s in 1954, Master’s in 1959, and PhD in 1963. Dr. Fletcher was certified in the Marquis Who’s Who Publication Board as a subject of biological record in “Who’s Who in America 1975 – 2012; Who’s Who in Medicine and Health Care, 2004 – 2012, and Who’s Who in the World, 2011 – 2012. Dr. Fletcher was a Professor, starting at the University of Connecticut from 1959 - 1963; he worked as a researcher for American Cyanamid Do., Pearl River, NY from 1964 - 1967 and then at the University of Pittsburgh from 1967 – 1986. Dr. Fletcher also served honorably in the U.S. Army for 31 years, retiring in 1993 as a Colonel. He enjoyed working around his home, genealogy, and kayaking.

Surviving is his wife, Barbara Gundersen Fletcher; two children, Deborah Vizard of California and Christopher Fletcher (wife Sandra) of Pittsburgh, PA; five grandchildren, Heather, Tiffany, Vanessa, Jason, and Megan; and ten great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Mark in 2000.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 19, 2018, at 10 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA; where Rev. Lester F. Stine will officiate. The family will receive friends Sunday, February 18 from 6 – 8 PM in the funeral home. Interment will be in Swan Point Cemetery, Providence, RI on Friday, April 20, 2018, at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his name to, Wounded Warrior Project PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517; Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Road West, Chambersburg, PA 17201-8706; or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
