Earl J. Carbaugh, 80, of Fayetteville, PA, died at 8:51 PM Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at Chambersburg Hospital. Born April 19, 1930 in Orrstown, PA, he was a son of the late Jacob O. and Mary Emma Perry Carbaugh. Earl served with the US Army during the Korean War and worked throughout his life as a carpenter. He was a life member of the Franklin Fire Company, St. Thomas Volunteer Fire Company, and Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Company. He also held membership in Detrich-Brechbill Post 612 American Legion in St. Thomas. Earl enjoyed hunting, woodworking, and spending time with his family. He was honored by the Franklin Fire Company as Fireman of the Year in 1971 and Driver of the Year in 1973.
He is survived by his loving wife, Thelma Thomas Carbaugh, whom he married March 29, 1958 in Hagerstown, MD; five children, Joyce Carr and husband Sonny of Fayetteville, Melvin Carbaugh, Roy Jacob Carbaugh and wife Buffy, Tracy L. Miller and husband Dennis, and Anthony Carbaugh and wife April, all of Chambersburg; thirteen grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Earl Jeffrey Carbaugh, five brothers, and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Monday, March 14, 2011 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Interment will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Chambersburg. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 PM Sunday and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.
