Earl A. Mayhugh, 84, of Chambersburg, PA, died Monday afternoon, January 20, 2014 at Chambersburg Hospital. Born May 25, 1929 in Greencastle, he was a son of the late C. William and Mary Lanehart Mayhugh. Earl was an auctioneer for more than sixty years. A US Army Veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of Deitrich-Brechbill Post 612 American Legion in St. Thomas and a former member of the Chambersburg Club, Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, the Pennsylvania Auctioneers Association, and the National Auctioneers Association. He enjoyed racing, NASCAR, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his son, Rodney L. Mayhugh and wife Elsie of Chambersburg; his daughter, Katrina L. Gayman of Chambersburg; four grandchildren, Josh Mayhugh, his wife Ellen, and their son Lawson R. Mayhugh, Sarah Gayman, Ben Gayman, and Karah Mayhugh; and four sisters, Dolly Bricker, Joan (Mrs. Jack) Statler, Elizabeth “Dot” Starliper, and Faye Rife, all of Greencastle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and William “Jake” Mayhugh.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, January 24, 2014 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA with Rev. Barry Starliper officiating. Interment with military honors by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will follow at Brown’s Mill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
