Earl L. McClain, 89, of Chambersburg, PA went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, August 11, 2021, in Providence Place Senior Living. Born September 5, 1931 in Waterfall, PA he was the son of the late Marshall J. and Olive L. (Barnett) McClain.
He was a graduate of Hustontown High School and served in the United States Army as Military Police at Fort Bragg, NC. On April 17, 1954, Earl married his wife of 67 years, the late Almeta L. (Mills) McClain, who passed away just two days before him on Monday, August 9, 2021. They made their home in New Grenada and attended the Church of God there where Earl was Sunday School Superintendent for many years and was always available to help at the church especially when something needed fixed. Earl and Almeta moved to Chambersburg in their later years where they became members of King Street United Brethren Church. Earl was employed at DW Miller, Inc, where he worked his way up from foreman, to project manager and eventually became vice president. He enjoyed working with wood from helping at the family sawmill as a teen to eventually crafting small intricate items such as jewelry boxes and candle holders to large cedar chests and gun cabinets. His family prizes the wood crafts he made with so much love and talent.
Earl is survived by two sons, Vance C. McClain and his wife Cindy of Waterfall, PA and Timothy G. McClain and wife Susan of Dauphin, PA; four grandchildren, Chase McClain and his wife Heather, Trevor McClain, Travis McClain and Tressa McClain; two great-grandchildren, Adele and Weston; two brothers, Blair E. McClain and his wife Barbara of Carlisle, PA and Gail E. McClain and his wife Betty of McConnellsburg, PA, and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife he is preceded in death by an infant daughter and two step-brothers, George and Ray Shughart.
Services will be held to honor both Almeta and Earl 11:00 A.M., Friday, August 20, 2021, in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202 with Pastor Ron Cook and Pastor Kenny Cornelius officiating. Interment will be held 1:30 P.M. Friday afternoon in the Center Cemetery, 3195 Doran Road, Waterfall, PA 16689.
The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service Friday morning in the funeral home.
