Edith Mae Hooven, age 77, of Fayetteville, PA; died peacefully at her son’s home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, March 13, 2012. Born in Elkton, MD on December 20, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Uhler and Ruth (Loller) Haggerty. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl W. Hooven Jr. on August 10, 1996. A homemaker most of her life, Edith worked various jobs until her retirement in the mid 1980’s. She enjoyed animals and gardening. In her senior years, she enjoyed volunteering at the New Guilford Brethren In Christ Church in the M.O.P.S. (Mothers Of Preschoolers) program and the sewing circle. Edith attended New Guilford Brethren In Christ Church and also Chambersburg First Church of God.
Mrs. Hooven is survived by a daughter, Phyllis A. Oller and husband Richard of Fayetteville, PA, a son; Robert E. Hooven and wife Frances of Fayetteville, PA; three grandchildren, Richard Oller II, and Mindy and Becky Hooven all of Fayetteville, PA; two great-grandchildren, Savannah Rose Oller and Dominick Lehman; and four sisters, Ruth Jane Drew of Chesapeake City, MD, Madeline Virginia Biggs of Middletown, DE, Irene Margaret Conley of Elkton, MD, and Faye Lee Steele of Chestertown, MD.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 16, 2012 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. Pastor Lawton Jacobs will officiate. Interment will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be placed in her name to Chambersburg Project Inc. 2011 Summer Work Camp, P.O. Box 1318, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
