Edith V. Osterman, 101, of Chambersburg, passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 in Menno Haven. Born on March 14, 1917 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Frank Keller and Martha Ellen Traxler Keller. She was the widow of Charles A. “Shorty” Osterman, who preceded her in death on July 26, 1996.
A 1936 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School, Edie’s involvements in the Chambersburg community were many and varied. She was a longstanding member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Ladies Auxiliary, and BPOElks Lodge #600. An expert seamstress, some of her other interests included golf, bowling, and volunteering at the Chambersburg Hospital. She and Shorty will be well-remembered by many as the co-owners of the former Osterman House.
Surviving are two children, Ann Landis (John Trail) and Joe Osterman (Mary); one sister, Dorothy Pheil, all of Chambersburg; two grandchildren, Ryan Landis (Melissa) of King of Prussia and Sarah Richards (Ryan) of Chambersburg; and one great granddaughter, Vienna Louise Richards. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Nancy Ellen Osterman; two sisters, Helen Myers and Edna Staley; and one brother, Leroy Keller.
A private family graveside service will be held in Corpus Christi Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staffs of Menno Haven and Spiritrust Lutheran Homecare and Hospice for their dedicated service and care for Edie, and suggests that memorial contributions be made to either entity at the following addresses: Menno Haven Benevolent Care Fund 2011 Scotland Avenue Chambersburg, PA 17201; or Spiritrust 2700 Luther Drive Chambersburg, PA 17202.
