Edward F. Peters, Sr., age 78, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2016, at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born March 20, 1938, in Chambersburg, PA, he was the son of the late Eugene R. and Mary C. Fogal Peters.
A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Peters served honorably from 1956 - 1959. He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, and a life member of the franklin fire company and the PA State Fire Police. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, however he cherished spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving is his wife of 56 years, Joyce E. Lynch Peters, whom he married on July 4, 1959, three children, Edward Peters, Jr. (wife Barbara) of Chambersburg, PA, Teresa A. Peters of Abbottstown, PA, and Pamela M. Peters of Hagerstown, MD; two grandchildren, Kristen Brookens (husband Kipp) and Christopher “Mike” Peters (wife Ashley); four great-grandchildren, Riley and Tate Brookens and Blake and Ellie Peters; a brother, Thomas R. Peters (wife Bonnie) of Chambersburg, PA; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, May 12, 2016, at 10 AM at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Fr. Dominic DiBiccaro will celebrate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 11, 2016, from 7 – 9 PM at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, where a vigil service for the deceased will be performed at 8 PM. Interment will follow the service in Corpus Christi Catholic Cemetery, where military honors will be provided by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 Honor Guard.
