Edward V. Shatzer, Sr., age 81, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2015, in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born October 12, 1933 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late John L. “Stuffy” and Gwendola P. Gift Shatzer.
A lineman for United telephone, Mr. Shatzer dedicated 39 years of service, retiring in 1991. He was a member of Second Lutheran Church, the American Legion Post 46, the AMVETS post 224, and the Goodwill Fire Company, all in Chambersburg. Mr. Shatzer enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing, playing cards, gambling, watching sports, and bowling.
Surviving is his wife, Judy Bitner Shatzer, a son, Edward V. Shatzer, Jr. of Fayetteville, PA;four grandchildren, Amber Nicole Shatzer, Jared Michael Shatzer, Ashley Nicole Galderise, and Coby Gene Galderise; and two siblings, William Shatzer (wife Manolita) of North Carolina and Barry “Dusty” Shatzer (wife Phyllis) of Greencastle, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John Galderise and two siblings, Shirley A. Lehman and John Shatzer.
A Memorial service will be held to honor his life on Monday, May 18, 2015 at 2:30 PM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd. Chambersburg, PA; where Pastor Mike Sanders and Pastor Carl McKee will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Rd., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
