Edward J. Tayman, 93, of Chambersburg, passed away on Wednesday evening, September 9, 2015 at his home. Born January 14, 1922 in Washington, DC, he was a son of the late Edward D. and Gertrude E. (Mangum) Tayman.
A U.S. Coast Guard veteran, Mr. Tayman served honorably during World War II. He worked as a credit manager for Giant Foods in Landover, Maryland. Mr. Tayman was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Chambersburg. He was a true patriot and was very proud of his service to his country during World War II. Edward enjoyed watching sports and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Mildred Tayman, whom he married on October 17, 1953; three children, Susan C. Tayman of Salisbury, MD, Mary F. Tayman (Malcolm Harris) of Chambersburg, and Joseph D. Tayman of Fayetteville, PA; six grandsons, Brian Tayman (Lisa), Joseph Hall, Justin Hall, Timothy Nutwell (Ai), Mark Nutwell, and Joey Nutwell; and four great-grandchildren, Seth, Scott, Shelby and Shannon Tayman. In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.
A funeral service to honor Edward’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 12, 2015 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Very Reverend Fr. Luis R. Rodriguez will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to SpiriTrust Lutheran Foundation 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, York, PA 17404 or to Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Ave. Chambersburg, PA 17201. The family would like to thank the SpiriTrust Lutheran nurses and aides that helped to take care of Edward during his illness.
