Edwin L. Patterson, 91, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Friday, December 11, 2020 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born May 31, 1929 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Grover and Nellie Wennell Patterson. A 1947 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School, Mr. Patterson founded the Art Sign Company in 1948 and owned and operated the business for 68 years prior to his retirement. He was an active member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church where he sang with the church choir and served on the Council and various other committees. He was a former member of the Lions Club and the Ski Club. Active all of his life he had at one time or another enjoyed riding his bike and motorcycle; walking; hang gliding; and playing softball. He had been a licensed pilot and enjoyed flying. He liked attending CASHS football games and hosting get-togethers at his home with his friends. His wife of 67 years, Mary Jane Grove Patterson, whom he married June 27, 1948, preceded him in death on February 22, 2016.
He is survived by his daughter, Barbara J. Woods (husband Greg) of Chambersburg; two grandchildren, Eric Woods of Chambersburg and Greg Woods, Jr. (wife Lindsay) of Mercersburg; and two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Dylan Woods. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Kitner and Isabel Kitzmiller; and two brothers, Ray and Earl Patterson.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, December 18, 2020 at Norland Cemetery. Rev. Dr. Aaron Smith will officiate. A service to celebrate his life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 431 Philadelphia Avenue, or to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Road West, both in Chambersburg, PA 17201.
