Edwin Smith

Edwin F. Smith, 88, of Fayetteville, PA, died Friday afternoon, May 25, 2012 at ManorCare Health Services in Chambersburg. Born May 12, 1924 in Bethel, NY, he was a son of the late Leroy and Regina Baker Smith. From 1939 – 1941 he served with the Civilian Conservation Corps in Florida. A US Navy veteran of WWII, he was stationed at the Naval Flight Training Center in Norfolk, VA. Edwin was employed as a line manager at Letterkenny Army Depot, retiring in 1977. He was a member of the Chambersburg SDA and Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post 223. An avid hiker, he cleared the Charcoal Hearth Trail at Caledonia State Park for more than twenty years.

He is survived by his wife, Constance M. Mohn Smith, whom he married August 4, 1956; two children, Selene F. Weller and husband John of Newville and Jesse E. Smith and wife Kathleen of Fayetteville; ten grandchildren, Todd E.F. Carbaugh and wife Alisha, Jonathan L. Weller and wife Monica, Jamin L. Flannery and husband James, Christopher A. Weller and wife Amanda, Jesslynn G. Weller, Josiah Ky Weller, Tonya Velazquez and husband Guillermo, Tiffeny Hernandez and husband Jaime, John Smith, and Joseph Smith and wife Audra; twenty-four great grandchildren; and a sister, Jean William of West Virginia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Andrew and Arthur Smith.

Services and interment will be at the convenience of the family.
