Eleanora Barbour Lovett

Eleanora G. Barbour Lovett, 82, of Chambersburg, PA, died Wednesday morning, August 15, 2012 at Chambersburg Hospital. Born December 27, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Arthur C. and Minnie Stoner Barbour. A member of St. James A.M.E. Church, Eleanora was also a member of the St. James A.M.E. Senior Choir, the Good Will Chorus of John Wesley A.M.E. Zion, the Nora Link Missionary Society, and the Hunter Bailey American Legion Auxiliary #885. Earlier in her life, Eleanora worked at the Gettysburg Shoe Factory then moved to Philadelphia where she worked as a waitress and a seamstress. She retired from the Scotland School for Veteran’s Children with ten years of service then went on to work in home care. Eleanora enjoyed knitting, singing, cooking, entertaining and collecting salt and pepper shakers.

She is survived by four sisters, Mildred Barbour Kelly of Chambersburg, Ann Barbour of Chambersburg, Minnie Barbour Rideout of Columbia, S.C., and Bassina Barbour Hinton (husband Donald) of Chambersburg; two brothers, Sylvester Barbour (wife Nedra) of Philadelphia, and Marvin Barbour, of Savannah G.A.; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Lovett Stoner and Delorse Barbour of Chambersburg; and numerous nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Theodore Lovett, Jr; three brothers; and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, August 22, 2012 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Roger W. Wilmer, Jr. will officiate with the assistance of Rev. James Johnson. Interment will follow at Lebanon Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. James A.M.E.
