Eleanore Marie (Ellie) Schmid, age 87, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2016, at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born August 16, 1929, in Elizabeth, NJ, she was the daughter of the late John and Helen Homolish Leskanic.
Mrs. Schmid was a 1947 graduate of Linden High School in Linden, NJ. She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir and was a part of the Busy Fingers Club. Mrs. Schmid loved sports, cooking, and baking; however her most treasured pastime was music. A talented musician, she played the accordion in a band with her siblings and her father. She enjoyed going to Engelbert Humperdinck concerts with her best friend, Gerda.
Surviving are her children; Joanne Hershey (Lee) of Chambersburg, PA, Albert J. Schmid of South Carolina, Russell W. Schmid (wife Heather) of Gardners, PA, Barbara Schmid of Lancaster, PA, and Dorothy Forsythe (husband Terry) of Falling Waters, WV; her cherished grandchildren, Jeffrey L. Hershey, Shannon M. Schmid Walko (husband Matthew), Shane M. Schmid (wife Monica), Lisa A. Hershey (Amy Dawson), Matthew R. Schmid (wife Karina), Matthew G. Schmid (wife Rachel), Adam W. Hershey (wife Dewayna), and William Arthur Schmid; her great-grandchildren, Adora, Marcus, Lukas, Hayden, Riley, Adam, Jr., and Xavier; one sister, Dorothy Beneciuk; and many close friends and neighbors whom she loved dearly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur R. Schmid on June 26, 2006, a grandson, Albert A. Schmid, two brothers, Eugene “Spike” Leskanic and John “Buddy” Leskanic, Jr.; and one sister, Helen Joanne Beckman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, December 1, 2016, at 1PM at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201; where Rev. Fr. Paul J. Theisz will celebrate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, from 6 – 8 PM in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA. Interment will follow the Mass on Thursday in Corpus Christi Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the music department (Choir) at the above church and address.
