Ella Craig Smith

December 1, 1944 — April 22, 2016

Ella Louise Craig Smith, age 71 went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, April 22, 2016, after traveling back from visiting her much loved children and grandchildren with her husband. Born December 1, 1944, in Altoona, PA, she was the daughter of Robert Lee and Irene Calista Snyder Craig.
Ella Louise Smith grew up in New Enterprise, PA, where she graduated from Northern Bedford High School, and went on to earn her undergraduate degree from Grace College and her Master’s degree from St. Frances University in education. Mrs. Smith taught school for over 40 years, retiring in 2012, from Corpus Christi School, after 24 years of service. Mrs. Smith was a member of King Street Church; she was also active in Gadabouts Square Dancing, active with young people through the church nursery, the Good News Club, and IRP at Wilson College. Passionate about teaching children, Ella Louise Dedicated time to tutoring children from her home after her retirement. She enjoyed reading, local and civil war history, traveling, and going on mission trips. Most notably, Mrs. Smith was one of the first 100 persons to dine at the Chic-Fil-A in Chambersburg, after camping out in the snow for 24 hours.
Surviving is her beloved husband of 48 years, Richard M. Smith, Jr., whom she married on June 24, 1967; three children, Brian Smith of Pottstown, PA, Susan Potts of Houston, TX, and Shawn (wife Samantha) Smith of Lake Charles, LA; five grandchildren, Jackson, Calista, Dietrich, and Simcha Potts and Isaac Smith; and one brother, Mack Craig (wife Diane).
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2016, at 6 PM at King Street Church, 162 E. King St., Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Lester F. Stine will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA. The family requests the omission of flowers and if desired memorial contributions in her name to Child Evangelism Fellowship of Franklin County, 45 South Broad St., Waynesboro, PA 17268.
