Elliott DeShong

Elliott DeShong Jr., 86, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Tuesday, August 8th peacefully at home. Born September 10, 1937 in Everett, PA, he was the son of Elliott DeShong and Blanche (Brown) DeShong. He graduated from Green Hill High School in June 1955 and began service with the United States Army in July 1957. Following a tour in Germany, he was honorably discharged in July 1960.

Elliott was employed by Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, PA for 38 years as a Supply System Analyst before retiring in February 1993. He was an active member of the Letterkenny Rod and Gun Club where he assisted with the trout nursery and annual fish rodeo. He was a member of the Fulton County Fire Dept., Chambersburg Elks, Chambersburg Club, VFW, and AMVETS. Elliott thoroughly enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially at the DeShong family farm where he loved to hunt, fish, cut wood, and spend time with family. He also enjoyed playing in the Letterkenny golf league, photography, and watching his favorite sports teams (Washington Redskins, Nationals and Capitals).

Elliott was a dedicated and devoted family man. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Sandy (Washabaugh) whom he married on October 4, 1986; daughter Melissa (Missy) Herr of Aldie, VA; son Darryn DeShong and his wife Heloisa of Carlisle, PA; sister Carolyn (DeShong) Kline of Harrisonville, PA; and three grandchildren, Laycie, Emma and Noah. His grandchildren always brought joy and a smile to his face.

The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Swartz and his staff for their wonderful care of Elliott over the last 33 years. Also a special thank you to Dr. Monica Stallworth, Dr. Mallory McClure, Dr. Louis Glass, Justin Timmons, and the entire ElderDay at Menno Haven staff for their loving support.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, August 14, 2023 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Burial with military honors by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1588 VFW Honor Guard will follow in Corpus Christi Cemetery in Chambersburg, PA. The family will receive friends from Noon until services begin at 2:00 PM on Monday at the funeral home.
