Elmer Kipe

Rev. Elmer T. Kipe, 89, of Shippensburg, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024 at the Shippensburg Health Care Center. Born August 12, 1934 in Woodsboro, MD, he was a son of the late Earl W. and Daisy B. Sprenkle Kipe.

A US Army veteran, Elmer served honorably during the Korean Era. After graduating from North East Bible Institute, he entered the ministry and served as a Minister at churches in Sweet Valley, Chester, Clairton, Mechanicsburg, Hanover, and finally in Chambersburg at Bethel Assembly of God, until his retirement after over 35 years of service. Rev. Kipe was a people person who loved his family, friends and congregations. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his wife Fern Kipe, whom he married on November 20, 2004; three sons, Randy Kipe (wife Deborah) of Dillsburg, Rev. Garry Kipe (wife Kelly) of Chambersburg, and Brian Kipe (wife Melissa) of York Springs; four stepsons, Jesse Murlatt of Camp Hill, Donald Murlatt, Sr. of Camp Hill, Gary Murlatt of Lewisberry, and Jeffrey Murlatt of New Cumberland; 13 grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and two siblings, Vaughn Kipe (wife Judy) of Chambersburg, and Daniel Kipe (wife Leah) of Greenvillage. Aside from his parents, Rev. Kipe was preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria “Kay” Group Kipe; and twelve siblings, Daisy Altland, Nona Barnes, Mary Kipe, Shirley Kipe, Samuel Kipe, Anna Helfrick, Richard Kipe, Pearl Friese, Ben Kipe, Charlie Kipe, Janet Wenger, and Harry Kipe.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 22, 2024 at Bethel Assembly of God, 400 Miller Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201. Rev. Michael Bongiorno will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Ringgold Cemetery, Ringgold, MD where military honors will be provided by the VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Assembly of God at the above address.
