Elmer Martin

Elmer W. Martin, 93, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Friday, May 24, 2013 at Menno Haven. Born February 7, 1920 in Washington County, MD, he was a son of the late Clyde W. and Ella B. Heckman Martin. A dairy farmer, Mr. Martin operated two farms in Greenvillage and one south of Chambersburg. He also served as President of Franklin Feed and Supply Company for 19 years. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Chambersburg where he was a member of the James Hoover Bible Class, served as a Trustee, and served on the Administrative Board and the Finance Committee. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the former Valley Bank for 17 years and was a member and Past President of the Franklin County Extension Association. He also held membership in the Pennsylvania Farmer’s Association, the Chamber of Commerce Association, and the Baltimore Dairy Association. Mr. Martin received the Master Farmer Award in 1969.

Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Masako Toyoma Martin of Chambersburg, five daughters, Vivian Hoover of Chambersburg, Winifred (Mrs. Donald) Shamblin of Orange Park, FL, Lorraine (Mrs. Robert) Gladfelter of Chambersburg, Sara (Mrs. Jeryl) Weller of Chambersburg, and Rosanna (Mrs. John) Nevius of Onancock, VA; eleven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Ellis P. Martin and wife Mamie of Marion and a sister, Kathryn (Mrs. Elmer D.) Martin, of Quincy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Lucille Klinedinst and Nancy Peters; and three brothers, Paul E., Kenneth E., and Clarence R. Martin.

It was Mr. Martin’s request that there be no service.
