Elton Richard Simpson, age 78, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 3, 2016, at Meritus Medical Center. Born June 1, 1938, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Dr. Thomas Richard and Corlena Scheur Simpson.
A 1956 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School, Mr. Simpson went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Army Reserves and had attended Grove City College for 3 years. He was a camera man working for the Washington Post newspaper, retiring in 1995 after 20 years. Mr. Simpson was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church, Elks Club #600, Kiwanis Club, and the VFW Post 1599, all in Chambersburg. He enjoyed weight lifting “pumping iron”, photography, fishing, and his many friendships at Penn Hall.
Surviving is his daughter, Lisa Ann Olmeda (husband William) of York, PA; two grandchildren, Christina Olmeda and Marianne Olmeda; a great-grandson, Lincoln Beard; and a brother Adrian C. Simpson of Chambersburg, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise Simpson, who passed away on May 5, 2002.
Funeral services to celebrate a life well lived will be held on Monday, October 10, 2016, at 2:30 PM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Scott Bowerman will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Lincoln Cemetery, where military honors will be provided by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the National Kidney Cancer Association, P.O.
