Esther G. Jones, 89, a resident at Quincy Village and formerly of 551 Willow Street, Chambersburg, PA, entered eternal life on Sunday morning, July 19, 2020. She lived her life thru our Lord and Savior. Born July 23, 1930 in Duffield, she was daughter of the late Walter B. and Alta M. Spangler Gelwicks. Esther had been employed as a Secretary/Program Analyst at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, retiring after 30 ½ years of service. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Brethren Church since 1946 and the Kings Sons and Daughters Sunday School class. She was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees #1063; AARP; the Franklin County Transplant Support Group; and served as secretary of Chambersburg Mall Walkers. Her husband, Lee L. Jones, whom she married October 19, 1949, preceded her in death on October 20, 2007.
Her life was an expression of the heart and love of God towards ALL. Her children express their full gratitude for her being the solid pillar of their lives. Her sweet self will forever live in our souls, NEVER to be forgotten.
She is survived by two sons, Ken D. Jones of Fayetteville, and Larry A. Jones of Lancaster; a daughter, Peggy Shaak of South Carolina; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and her brother, Orville Gelwicks. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Donald Jones; four sisters, Ruth Yoke, Doris Smith, Gladys Bear; and Lyndall Weller; and a brother, Richard Gelwicks.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, July 23, 2020 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. The Rev. Garry Culler will officiate. Interment will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday and from 10:00-11:00 AM Thursday at the funeral home.
