Esther Lehman

September 23, 1928 — February 23, 2018

Esther S. Lehman, 89, of Fayetteville, PA, went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 23, 2018 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born September 23, 1928 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Harvey E. and Anna Martin Shank. Her beloved husband of almost 62 years, Virgil T. Lehman, preceded her in death on February 17, 2012.

Esther was a wonderful woman full of wisdom, generosity, compassion and gentleness, all of which were generated from her personal relationship with Jesus. She was deeply devoted to her family. After her husband passed away, she carried on their tradition of praying daily for each by name. She loved her church and community and served both faithfully. Esther was a 1947 graduate of Eastern Mennonite High School in Harrisonburg Virginia. Early in her life she was employed at the Stanley Co. and Olympia Candy Kitchen and volunteered at Menno Haven for many years. Above all else, she loved her role as a homemaker for her family. She enjoyed her birds and flowers.

She is survived by five children, Daryl R. Lehman (and wife, Rhoda) of Waynesboro, Sondra K. Funk (and husband, Ken) of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Audrey J. Swartzentruber (and husband, Dan) of Fayetteville, Joyce E. Kalous (and husband, Paul) of Cincinnati, OH, and Edwin J. Lehman (and wife, Natalie) of Chambersburg; 15 grandchildren; and a growing number of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Esther was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Martie Johnson; two brothers and three sisters.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Pond Bank Community Church, 6555 Duffield Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Pastor Marlin Ebersole and Pastor Jeremy Lehman will officiate. Interment will follow in Marion Mennonite Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 – 8 PM on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
