Esther S. Reichard, 84, formerly of Waynesboro, went to be with The Lord, at 4:45 PM on Monday, November 21, 2011 in the Quincy United Methodist Home where she had been a resident since 2009. Born on November 14, 1927 in Duffield, she was the daughter of the late F. Shull and Edna M. Coble Skelly. She was a 1945 graduate of the Chambersburg High School. Esther and her husband Bud spent their working lives running the family farm.
Esther was a member of Solomon’s Evangelical Lutheran Church (Grindstone Hill). She was a former member of the Busy Bee Sunday School Class, Whirlybird Square Dancers, Altenwald Homemakers, Farm Bureau Advisory Council, Franklin County 4-H, where she served as a leader for 15 years, and the Senior Extension Club.
Esther tremendously enjoyed being a homemaker. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she viewed as her greatest treasures.
Esther is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, John E. “Bud” Reichard, whom she married on December 7, 1946; 2 sons, Edgar and wife Frances of Chambersburg, and Jesse and wife Tonya of Waynesboro; 2 daughters, Gertie Reichard and Vickie Mickey and husband Jim both of Waynesboro; 9 grandchildren, Christopher, Brian, Bradley and Curtis Reichard, Christiana Timmons, Benjamin Mickey, Barbara Aldrich, Melinda Gross and Matthew Reichard and 12 great grandchildren. She is also survived by 2 sisters, Mary Shetler and Ruth Dice, both of Chambersburg, a brother Paul Skelly of Shippensburg and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Esther was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and George Skelly.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday November 27, 2011 at 2 PM at Solomon’s Evangelical Lutheran Church (Grindstone Hill), 4856 Wayne Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Pastor Bill Nienstedt will officiate. Interment will be private. Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg.
