Esther P. Shaffer, 92, formerly of Broad Street in Chambersburg, died Monday afternoon, July 10, 2017 at The Shook Home. Born November 11, 1924 in Mowersville, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd W. and Minerva A. Suffecool Piper. Mrs. Shaffer was a 1943 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School and prior to marriage was employed at the former Wolf Company in Chambersburg. She was then employed at the former H.J. Heinz Company, retiring December 1, 1979. She was an expert seamstress and accomplished at knitting and crocheting. For many years she crocheted infant sets to include hats, booties, sweaters, and afghans for church members, family, and friends. She was a charter member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Chambersburg where she taught Sunday School for fifty-eight years. She and her late husband served as listeners for the Joy-El Bible Release program and sang with the Camp Joy-El choir. They were also members of the Chambersburg Mall Walkers. Her husband, Clyde A. “Junior” Shaffer, whom she married on August 26, 1944, preceded her in death on July 9, 2010.
She is survived by three children, Bonnie K. Alleman of Shippensburg, Doris J. Lippo of Michigan, and Terry D. Shaffer and wife Jean of Chambersburg; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. She was the last of her immediate family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Friday, July 14, 2017 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Jeffrey McCracken and Rev. Dennis Chisholm will officiate. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
