Esther Strite

Esther J. Strite, 78, of Chambersburg, PA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, while surrounded by her family on Sunday afternoon, March 22, 2015 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born October 11, 1936 in Shippensburg, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Anna Hock Crider. Mrs. Strite was a 1955 graduate of the Shippensburg High School. She worked as a Nursing Assistant at Menno Haven and South Mountain Restoration Center. For thirty years she provided child care for working families in the Chambersburg area. A member of West Side Brethren In Christ Church, she was a former member of Air Hill Brethren In Christ Church where she and her late husband served as a Deacon couple for ten years and she taught Sunday School and was active with the Needle Guild. Her husband, Gerald B. Strite, whom she married October 19, 1957, preceded her in death on March 25, 2000.

She is survived by four children, Deborah A. Sollenberger (husband Rev. James), Mary G. Bert (husband Jared), Lois M. Hess-Strite, and Carl E. Strite (wife Shirley), all of Chambersburg; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by seven sisters, Mary Musser of Mechanicsburg, Dorothy Nickel of Newville, Anna Gettel of Dillsburg, Velva Wingert of Chambersburg, Cora Alleman of Chambersburg, Sarah Brubaker of Westfield, and Ferne Grove of Goodrich, MI; a brother, Abram Crider of Shippensburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Monroe, and Irvin Crider.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, March 27, 2015 at West Side Brethren In Christ Church, Chambersburg, PA with her son-in-law, Rev. James Sollenberger officiating. Interment will be at Air Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Friends may also view one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
