Ethel Byers

Ethel M. Byers, age 89, of 924 Brookens Road, Fayetteville, PA, died Wednesday morning, August 10, 2011 in Chambersburg Hospital. Born March 5, 1922 in Fayetteville, she was a daughter of the late William H. and Clara Perry Brookens. A homemaker most of her life, she had at one time been employed at the former Stanley Company in Chambersburg. Mrs. Byers was a member of Coldspring Church where she taught Sunday School for ten years. She and her husband of over seventy-one years, Warren K. Byers, were married on November 28, 1940 in Frederick, MD and resided at their current address since 1945.

In addition to her husband she is survived by a son, Warren James Byers, husband of Francoise Poitras Byers of Winchester, VA; a grandson James Scott Byers and wife Kim and granddaughter Amy Michelle Myers and husband Bruce, all of Virginia; five great-grandsons; a sister, Grace Forbes of Hagerstown, MD; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Joan Byers on March 10, 1968; a great-grandson, Justin Myers; two sisters, Lillian Brookens and Esther Ulrich; and five brothers, John, Charles, Garnet, Chester, and Russell Brookens.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, August 13, 2011 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Donald Bender will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
