Ethelbert Byers

Ethelbert “Bert” Byers, 86, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Sunday, December 17, 2023 in SpiriTrust Lutheran The Village at Luther Ridge. Born November 18, 1937 in Chambersburg he was the son of the late Monroe and Mary (Wingert) Byers.

He was a graduate of Chambersburg High School with the Class of 1955. Bert was employed as a supervisor at Landis Tool Company, Waynesboro, PA. He retired after nearly 40 years with the company. He was a member of Mission Hill Church, formerly Chambersburg Brethren in Christ Church where he ran the sound room and taught Sunday school. He enjoyed wood working, camping, gardening, and hunting. He was a member of Sinnemahoning Hunting Camp where he made many memories. Bert was a loving and devoted family man who loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was quiet and wise and made a difference in the lives he touched.

He is survived by two children, Jeffrey Byers and Judith Benner and her husband Daniel; two daughters-in-laws, Mary Byers and Jaqueline Newell and her husband Gary; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Joan Rutt and her husband Galen. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Linda J. Byers who passed away May 20, 2023; a son, Gary Byers and sister, Fannie Slick and her husband, John.

Services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, December 22, 2023 in Mission Hill Church, 465 Center Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201 with Rev. Kevin Witter officiating. A committal service will be held, 1:30 PM, Friday, December 22, 2023 in Air Hill Cemetery, 7041 Cumberland Highway, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Friday morning in the church.
