Etta Collier

Etta “Jean” Collier, 83, of Chambersburg, PA, died Tuesday afternoon, March 25, 2014 at the Shook Home. Born May 1, 1930 in Hopewell, PA, she was a daughter of the late J. Curtis and Josephine Bridenstine Browell. She was a graduate of the Robert P. Smith High School in Yellow Creek, PA. A homemaker most of her life, Mrs. Collier was an accomplished seamstress and musician, playing both the organ and the trumpet. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and spending time with her family. She was a member of Martha Custis Chapter #342 Order of Eastern Star, Samaria Shrine #43 Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, and Falling Spring Court #139 Order of Amaranth. Her husband, Clyde A. Collier, whom she married September 24, 1949, preceded her in death on July 11, 2008.

She is survived by three sons; Duaine A. Collier and wife Trudy of Newburg, Harold E. Collier and wife Susan of Chambersburg, and Fred A. Collier and wife Janyce of Chambersburg; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four brothers, Ralph Browell, Danny Browell and wife Cathy, David Browell and wife Jeannie, and Dennis Browell and wife Denise; two sisters-in-laws, Maureen Browell and Rose Browell; and a brother-in-law, Allen Jay. Aside from her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Curtis Browell and Joseph Browell; and a sister, Helen Jay.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, April 4, 2014 at the Chambersburg First Church of God, 2230 Grand Point Road, Chambersburg, PA with Rev. Lester Swope officiating. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday, April 3, 2014 at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA where members of Martha Custis Chapter #342 Order of Eastern Star will conduct services at 7:00 PM. There will also be a viewing from 10:00 – 11:00 AM Friday, April 4, 2014 at the church.
