Eugene West

Eugene C. West, 79, of Chambersburg, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2013 in the Shook Home. Born on September 18, 1933 in Altoona, PA, he was a son of the late Harry S. and Grace A. Lee West.

After graduating from Altoona High School in 1951, he entered the U.S. Navy Reserves and served from 1951-55, two years on active duty in Naval Intelligence. After his discharge he was employed at N.S. A. in Washington, DC. In 1960 he left N.S.A. and became an agent for State Farm Insurance Company, with an office in Damascus, MD. He retired from State Farm after 36 years as an agent, and moved to Pennsylvania, where he worked part time at the Shook Home for 11 ½ years. A member of the Greencastle Sportsman Club, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marilyn Paul West; 3 daughters, Connie Moyer (husband John) Brenda West (fiancé Gilbert Shupe), Roxanne Kukucka (husband Paul); one son, Eugene West Jr., 9 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty, and a son, Timothy.

Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, March 28, 2013 in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, with Rev. Ray Kauffman officiating. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick at 12 PM, where members of the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard will conduct military graveside honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-4 PM on Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Road West, Chambersburg, PA 17201, or to a charity of one’s choice.
