Evelyn Burkholder

Evelyn K. Burkholder, 86, of Chambersburg, PA, died Saturday, December 08, 2012 at her home. Born May 23, 1926 in Greencastle, she was a daughter of the late Levi M. and Catherine L. Dentler Hawbaker. Early in her life she was employed at the former Stanley Company and then went on to work for many years at the former H.J. Heinz Company, both in Chambersburg. She was also employed part-time for twenty-two years at Camp Joy-El and for ten years as a custodian at Chambersburg Brethren In Christ Church. She was a long-time member of the Chambersburg Brethren In Christ Church where she had at one time been active with the Children’s Ministry, the Sewing Circle, the Missions Ministry, and many other church activities. She volunteered with the American Red Cross and enjoyed putting puzzles together in her free time. Her husband, Roy D. Burkholder, whom she married September 14, 1946, preceded her in death on January 3, 2003.

She is survived by four children, Barbara Gayman and husband Ronald of Chambersburg, Nelson Burkholder and wife Martha of St. Thomas, Marlin Burkholder and wife Anna Mae of Chambersburg, and Robert I. Burkholder of Palm Springs, CA; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00AM Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Chambersburg Brethren In Christ Church with Rev. Kevin Witter officiating. The family will receive friends from 9-10:00 AM Tuesday at the church. Private interment will be in Air Hill Cemetery.
