Evelyn R. Newman, 88, formerly of 145 Highland Road, Chambersburg, PA, passed away Sunday morning, January 8, 2012 in the Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where she resided for the past four years. Born June 27, 1923 near Cheesetown, Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Rhoda Sollenberger Rotz. Evelyn was a 1941 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School and early in her life worked at Letterkenny Army Depot and the former Penn Hall Girls School. She had also been employed at Guilford Hills Elementary School and was last employed at JC Penney’s. Evelyn was a member of Scotland United Methodist Church and for many years had been an active member of the former Salem United Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing and quilting. Her beloved husband, Robert A. Newman, whom she married July 6, 1943, preceded her in death on August 18, 1994.

She is survived by two sons, Dennis R. Newman and wife Barbara of San Rafael, CA and Douglas R. Newman and wife Debra of Fayetteville; four granddaughters, Heather, Laurie, Lisa, and Cameron; one great-grandson, Luke; and two brothers, Kenneth Rotz and wife Lorraine and Melvin Rotz and wife Lila, all of Fayetteville. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Leroy Rotz.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, January 14, 2012 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Interment will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
