Evelyn Louise Peron, age 81, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Monday, March 27, 2017, at Providence Place. Born in Meadville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Austin R. and Helen A. Gottschling Peterson.
A Spanish Teacher, Mrs. Peron dedicated 35 years teaching in the Chambersburg Area School District, retiring in 1993. Mrs. Peron was a member of The Presbyterian Church of the Falling Spring, the National Education Association, Habitat for Humanity - Chambersburg, where she served as a Board Member, she also participated in Meals on Wheels, and volunteered at the Chambersburg Hospital. She was also a member of AARP, PSEA-R, and PSAR. Mrs. Peron was awarded teacher of the year at the Chambersburg Area School District; she enjoyed bird watching, traveling, knitting, and photography, taking medical/dental mission trips to South and Central America. She visited over 17 countries.
Surviving are two siblings, John M. Peterson (wife Rebecca) of Morocco and Joan M. Gordon of Lewisburg, PA; a foster son, Larry McQuait of Hagerstown, MD and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Donald W. Peron.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at 3 PM at The Presbyterian Church of the Falling Spring, 221 North Main St., Chambersburg, PA 17201, where Rev. Andy Hart and Rev. John A. Gordon, Jr. will officiate. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Habitat for Humanity, 1331 S. 7th St., suite 203, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
