Evelyn (Shinham) Shatzer, 92, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Saturday, July 13, 2024 in Mercy House, Chambersburg. Born June 11, 1932 in Greencastle, PA she was the daughter of the late David W. Shinham, Sr. and Anna Louella (Myers) Shinham.
She was a graduate of Greencastle Antrim High School with the Class of 1950. Evelyn then went on to complete her secretarial course at Hagerstown Business College in 1951. She was primarily a homemaker and loved taking care of her family and others throughout her lifetime. Evelyn also worked for Baltimore Life Insurance Company, Lewrene Interiors, and as a dental assistant for a number of years. Evelyn was a longtime member of King Street Church where she sang in the choir for many years. She loved cooking and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Evelyn also enjoyed camping and traveling and visiting a majority of the states across the country.
She is survived by two children, Rebecca Brechbill (Sherwin) of Chambersburg, PA and Samuel Shatzer (Colleen) of Chambersburg, PA; five grandchildren, Adam Brechbill (Janelle) of Chambersburg, PA, Ash Brechbill (Rochelle) of Chambersburg, PA, Aaron Brechbill (Lindsay) of Waukesha, WI, Andrew Brechbill of Chambersburg, PA, and Annette Ayrapetian (David) of Alexandria, VA; 9 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 68 ½ years, Frank L. Shatzer who passed away June 15, 2021 and three siblings, David W. Shinham, Jr., Annabelle Carrington, and Franklin Shinham.
Services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, July 22, 2024 in King Street Church, 162 E. King Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201 with Rev. Ron Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Lincoln Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday, July 21 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM in Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202 as well as one hour prior to the service Monday morning in the church.
Flowers are welcomed but, memorial contributions may also be made in her name to King Street Church Samaritan Fund, Missionary Fund, or Youth Ministries.
