Evelyn N. Stevens, 89, of Chambersburg, passed away on Saturday morning, November 2, 2024, at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born October 15, 1935, in Wells Valley, PA, she was a daughter of the late Clifton A. and Mildred M. Winters Foster. Her beloved husband, Carl H. Stevens, whom she married on September 24, 1954, preceded her in death on March 30, 2000.
Evelyn was a 1954 graduate of Hustontown High School. She spent most of her life making a home for her family and as a self-employed seamstress. Evelyn was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Williamson and attended St. James Untied Brethren Church in Chambersburg. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, cooking for her family, taking bus trips, knitting, crocheting, and being with her church family.
She is survived by three children, Michael V. Stevens and wife Susie of Greencastle, Murray B. Stevens and wife Connie of Mercersburg, and Carla S. Horn and husband Timothy of Chambersburg; six grandchildren, Crystal Long (Andy) of Summer Hill, Andrew Stevens (Laura) of Greencastle, Courtney Dowding (Jason) of Chambersburg, Krista Anderson (Patrick) of Needmore, Elise Slaughter (Will) of Catawissa, and Erica Dailey (Ryan) of Chambersburg; ten great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Aside from her parents and husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by two siblings, Doris M. Kogo and W. P. “Jim” Foster.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 11, 2024, at St. Thomas Cemetery, St. Thomas, PA. Evelyn’s son, Rev. Murray B. Stevens, will officiate. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, PA. The family requests the omission of flowers and memorial contributions be made to St. James United Brethren Church, 2398 Warm Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. The family also extends a special thanks to the care teams at Providence Place and Brookview Health Care Center for the care she received.
