Everett A. “Bert” Moore, 83, of Chambersburg, PA went home to his new home in Heaven Monday, April 24, 2023. Born December 28, 1939 in Pine Creek Township, PA he was the son of the late Andrew Moore and Mary Ellen (McMaster) Byerly.
He was a graduate of Scotland School for Veterans Children with the Class of 1959. Bert then went on to serve his country honorably during Vietnam and the Cuban Conflict with the United States Navy, retiring as Chief Petty Officer after 23 years of service. He had strong love for his country. He then went to work at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg as a welder and retired from there after 25 years. While at Letterkenny, Bert served as a Human Relation Facilitator specializing in teaching diversity to his coworkers. He was last employed at Laurel Run Nursing Home in transportation and at Sears and Roebuck.
Bert was a member of King Street Church where he was a member of the Good Samaritan Sunday School Class for 54 years. He was also a member of National Active and Retired Federal Employee Association Chapter 1063, Fleet Reserve Association, and Virginia Society Col. James Wood II Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. Over the years he enjoyed fishing, camping and most of all working on the home he built and gardening. He served and mentored young men at the Boys Club of Norfolk, VA, Webelo Scout Leader, and as a Little League Baseball coach and manager.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Kay E. (Deamer) Moore; two children, Erick Moore and his wife Georgianna and Mary Moore Reicheneder and her husband Rudy; four grandchildren, Patrick and Jennifer Moore and James and Rachel Griffin; two step-sister, Sandee Young and Jacki Weaver; a wonderful sister-in-law Georgiana Deamer Hoffeditz; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his foster mother, Rella Crum; his in-laws, Edna and Roy Deamer; and two brothers, James and John Moore.
Services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 29, 2023 in King Street Church, 162 E. King Street Chambersburg, PA 17201 with Rev. Ronald Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg where military honors will be conducted by the honor guard of Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post #1599, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday evening in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg as well as one hour prior to the service Saturday morning in the church.
