Farrar B. Max Gray

July 18, 1931 — April 17, 2016

Farrar B. Max Gray, 84, of Waynesboro, PA, was called “home” by the Lord on Sunday, April 17, 2016. Born July 18, 1931 in East Waterford, PA, he was the son of the late Clara (Eckard) Gray and Forrest Gray. He was the last of his immediate family.

Mr. Gray attended Chambersburg High School before serving in the US Navy from 1952-1956. He had been employed at Sealtest in Chambersburg from 1956-1966 and was then employed by the former J. Schoeneman Company as a sewing machine mechanic from 1966-1968 in the Winchester, VA plant. In 1970, he was employed at Letterkenny Missile Shop, retiring in 1995 as an Electronic Measuring Equipment Mechanic, Grade 12. After retirement, he worked part time as a courier for Citizen’s Bank and later for Omega Laboratory in Waynesboro.

He was a Life Member and Past Commander of Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW and Past President and Life Member of The Friendship Fire Company, both in Chambersburg. He became a member of the Five Forks Brethren In Christ Church in 1982, where he served as a Deacon for 15 years. In the past, he also served on the Finance Committee, Church Board, was Head Usher, and a member of the Concert Committee. Max was known affectionately in the church as “the hugger”, always ready with a smile and hug.

Surviving is his wife of 54 years, Sandy (Fogelsonger) Gray of Waynesboro, his son Douglas A. Gray, devoted daughter-in-law Angie, and two very special grandchildren, David and Amanda, all of Waynesboro. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, and many church friends. Preceding him in death in addition to his mother and father was a sister, Louise Trump of Hershey; two brothers, Gene Gray of Hershey and Holbrook “Joe” Gray of Milltown, NJ.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Interment in Lincoln Cemetery with military honors by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will follow the visitation. Friends are invited to continue to celebrate Max’s life at a memorial service at 4:00 PM Wednesday at Five Forks Brethren in Christ Church where Pastor Adam Meredith and Pastor H. Ray Kipe will officiate.

His wish is that flowers by omitted and any/all contributions in his memory be made to Five Forks Brethren In Christ Church, 9244 Five Forks Road, Waynesboro, PA 17268.
