Fern G. Wingert Shoop, 79, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Tuesday morning, October 11, 2016 at her home. Born July 31, 1937 in Fayetteville, she was a daughter of the late Merle and Catherine Sollenberger Wingert. Fern attended Messiah College and was a 1956 graduate of the former Chambersburg Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed for six years at the Chambersburg Hospital as an LPN and operated a childcare business from her home for many years. She was later employed at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home for twenty-two years, retiring August 3, 2007. Following retirement she worked part-time at the Chambersburg Area School District. Fern was a representative for Home Interiors for twenty seven years. She attended King Street United Brethren Church where she was a member of the New Life Sunday school class and sang with the church choir. A prayer warrior, she was a member of the Intercessory prayer group at the church. She was also a member of AARP. Fern enjoyed cooking, flying, knitting, and spending time with her grandchildren and attending their sporting events. She loved to travel and her favorite trip was when she went to Rome, Italy and The Holy Land.
She is survived by four children, Larry Shoop of Chambersburg, Dennis Shoop and wife Kandi of Westminster, MD, Carla Bender and husband Jeff of Chambersburg, and Stanley Shoop and wife Michelle of Chambersburg; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; her sister, Janet Kirkpatrick; and her brother, Ray Wingert and wife Rubie, all of Chambersburg.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Monday, October 17, 2016 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Lester F. Stine and Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Interment will follow at Air Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Sunday and from 10:30-11:30 AM Monday at the funeral home.
