Florence E. Purnell, age 77, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away in her home on Saturday, July 27, 2013 with her family by her side. Born April 25, 1936 in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Mildred S. Helman Christman.
A 1954 graduate of the former Chambersburg High school, Mrs. Purnell went on to work at the former Stanley Company for 10 years, then on to Tracy Fashions for 14 years, and finally retiring from Gibble’ s Potato Chips after 18 years. A dedicated wife and loving mother, Mrs. Purnell enjoyed spending time with her family and going to the woods hunting with her husband, cooking, and making ceramics. She was a member of the Ebenezer United Brethren Church for over 50 years, where she had served as a Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Secretary.
Surviving is her husband of 55 years, Stanley E. Purnel, whom she married on June 28, 1958; her son, Mark A. Purnell (wife Sharon) of Chambersburg; two grandsons, Matthew (fiancé Nichole Detwiler) and Michael (fiancé Krystle Etter) Purnell; two great-grandchildren; and six siblings, George Christman, Jr., Charles Christman, Hazel Zullinger (husband Nelson), Shirley Bitner (husband Vince), Richard Christman, and Nelson Christman (wife Deb).
A Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 10 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA 17202; where Pastors David Grove and Jim Mark will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 2, 2013 from 7-9 PM and on Saturday one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.
