Floyd “Bud” Bittner Furl, Jr., 69, of Chambersburg, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at his home with his wife and daughters by his side. He is now at peace after a battle with cancer. Born July 11, 1946 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Floyd B. Furl, Sr., and Katherine H. (Kraiss) Furl.
Floyd was a 1964 graduate of CASHS. He then attended the former Williamsport Technical School. Floyd was employed as a machinist at the former Ingersol Rand for 26 years until his retirement in 2001. He enjoyed gardening and gave away many tomatoes and cucumbers to friends and neighbors. He loved watching NASCAR, tinkering with small engines, and visiting Cape May, NJ once a year. Most of all, he loved his wife and two daughters. He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church.
Survivng is his wife of 43 years, Edris “Renee” (Shockey) Furl, whom he married in 1972; two daughters, Jennifer Valentine (husband Mark) of TN, and Amy Schroeder (husband Gregory) of Altoona; and his sister, Dorthea Corey of Chambersburg.
A graveside service will be held 10:00 AM on Monday, January 18, 2016 at Norland Cemetery. Rev. Scott Bowerman will officiate. Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Central Presbyterian Church, 40 Lincoln Way West, Chambersburg PA 17201, or to Heartland Hospice, 417 Phoenix Dr., Unit A, Chambersburg, PA 17201. The family is very grateful to Floyd’s wonderful caregivers from Heartland Hospice.
