Floyd V. Johnston, 99, formerly of Westgate Drive, Chambersburg, PA, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Chambers Pointe in Chambersburg. Born February 14, 1918 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Reuben E. and Mary Hershberger Johnston. He was a life member of the First United Methodist Church and a 1937 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School. Floyd served honorably with the US Army during WWII. He spent 2 ½ years in Cairo, Egypt serving as Secretary to the Staff Judge Advocate of the Middle East Service Command having attained the rank of Technical Sergeant. After returning from Egypt, he was employed at Letterkenny Army Depot as Supervisor of the printing department and later as an Editor, retiring in 1974. He was a life member of Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW; a member of Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion for sixty-seven years; a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees #1063 and the Goodwill Fire Company, all in Chambersburg.
Floyd was the last surviving member of his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eight brothers and two sisters. A number of nieces and nephews survive.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 29, 2017 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Dianne B. Salter will officiate. Interment will follow at Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 AM Wednesday at the funeral home.
