Floyd Swanger

Floyd Edgar Swanger, age 83, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away at the Chambersburg Hospital on Saturday, March 4, 2017. Born October 9, 1933, in Shippensburg, he was the son of the late Charles Edgar and Cecilia Millhouse Swanger.
A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Swanger served honorably during the Korean Conflict. He continued his service, working at Letterkenny Army Depot, where he retired in 1989. Mr. Swanger was a life member of the VFW Post 1599, Amvets Post 224, American Legion Post 373, The Chambersburg Club, and Franklin Fire Company. He was also a member of the Shippensburg Legion Post 223 and the Moose Lodge 842. Mr. Swanger enjoyed golf, hunting, NASCAR, watching the Oakland Raiders, and the Baltimore Orioles.
Surviving are two children, Tina L. Horton (husband Frank) of Chambersburg, PA and Kevin E. Swanger (companion Susan) of Chambersburg, PA; a step-daughter, Barbara A. Snively (husband Ted) of Chambersburg, PA; five grandchildren; three step grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and seven siblings, Wayne (wife Margie) of Enola, PA; Donald (wife JoAnne) of Mohnton, PA; Richard (wife JoAnne) of Chambersburg, PA; Gerald (wife Lucy) of Victoria, TX; John (wife Elaine) of Chambersburg, PA; and Dale Swanger (wife Sherry) of Chambersburg, PA and Janet Derrick (husband the late Richard) of Shippensburg, PA; also survived by his friend Nancy Knepper and his faithful feathered friend, Emmy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin daughters, Brenda and Linda Swanger, a brother Harry T. “Sonny” Swanger, and a sister, Phyllis Kirby.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, March 10, 2017 at 10 AM in Salem Cemetery, Letterkenny Rd., Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Lester F. Stine will officiate. Military honors will be provided by members of the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Honor Guard. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Rd. West, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
