Francis E. “Jack” Harlowe, 95, of Waynesboro and formerly of Marion, passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2018, at the Shook Home. Born November 24, 1922 in Tyrone, PA, he was a son of the late John M. and Mary E. Sprouse Harlowe. His beloved wife Kathryn A. Flick Harlowe preceded him in death on December 8, 1997.
Jack was a 1941 graduate of Tyrone High School. A US Army Air Corps veteran, he served honorably in the 9th Bombardment Group 99th Squadron. During his service he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with two bronze stars and numerous other medals. Jack was employed as a machinist with Mack Truck for 23 years until his retirement in 1984. He was a life member of Amvets Post 224, VFW Post 6319 in Greencastle, and the American Legion Post 46.
He is survived by two daughters, Judy Ellis and husband David of Waynesboro, and Jacqueline Barnes of Cummings, GA; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, Jack was preceded in death by his son, Gary M. Harlowe; grandson, Eugene Harlowe, two brothers and six sisters.
A graveside service will be held in Parklawns Memorial Gardens at the family’s convenience. Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
