Francis “Frank” D. Johnston, age 77 of Chambersburg, PA, passed away at his home with his family by his side on Thursday, October 27, 2016. Born February 22, 1939, in West Chester, PA, he was the son of the late Francis and Marion Nilan Johnston.
A 1961 graduate of The Pennsylvania State University, Frank earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Adminisration . He then entered the U.S. Army, where he served honorably for two years. A computer analyst, Frank worked in Civil Service, retiring from Letterkenny Army Depot in 1994, after 30 years of service. A devout catholic, Frank was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Frank was proud of his Irish heritage and greatly enjoyed a trip to Ireland to meet relatives. He loved baseball and was extremely knowledgeable about baseball history. He played an important "behind the scenes" role in the founding of The House of Grace, a ministry for women.
Surviving is his wife of 48 years, Janet Shriver Johnston, whom he married in 1968 and his son, James “Jim” Johnston of Chambersburg.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate Frank’s life on Tuesday, November 1, 2016, at 11:30 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Fr. Brian Olkowski will celebrate. There will be a private interment. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Spiritrust Lutheran Hospice, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17202 or to the House of Grace, 307 Lincoln Way E., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
