Frank E. Carbaugh, 76, of Fayetteville, PA, died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon, October 15, 2011 at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital, Virginia Beach, VA. Born February 12, 1935 near Mercersburg, he was a son of the late Earl S. and Mary J. Sampson Carbaugh. Frank retired from the US Army at the rank of First Sergeant after a career with the military spanning 24 ½ years during which time he served in Vietnam and Korea. Following his retirement from the military he was employed for 10 years at Letterkenny Army Depot. He was a life member of Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, the Marine Corps League, and South Mountain Fish and Game Club. Frank enjoyed spending time with his family, walking his best friend Buddy, and vacationing at the beach. His hobbies included golfing, hunting, and fishing.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joan L. Peters Carbaugh, whom he married January 23, 1953; four children, Kenneth R. Carbaugh and wife Karen J. and Michael A. Carbaugh, all of Fayetteville; Donna Brown and husband Dennis L. of Chambersburg, and Robin Perry and husband Gary L. of Gettysburg; fifteen grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by six brothers, Eugene and wife Carol of Greencastle, David and wife Charlotte of Fayetteville, Ralph and wife Faye and Richard and wife Debbie, all of Clay Hill, Harold and wife Donna and Guy and wife Dorothy, all of Marion; and two sisters, Edna Evitts of Clay Hill and Earlene Short of Shippensburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Kenneth, Harry, Paul, and Elwood.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, October 20, 2011 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Interment with military honors by members of Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will follow at Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9:00 PM Wednesday and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
