Frank Hocker

Frank L. Hocker, a child of God, passed away on October 1st, 2015 at the age of 79. At the time of his death he resided in Fayetteville, PA. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, George W. Hocker and Rachel Sutcliffe Hocker, a sister, Rebecca Hocker Hewitt and his brother, George T. Hocker. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Donna Stadinger Hocker; four children, Kathren Hocker Stammler (Chris) and Erika Hocker Woodyard (Lance), Laura Hocker Barbins (Paul), and Michael Hocker (Annette); three sisters, Jean Guth, Carolyn Cooper, and Mary Alice Bird (John); and 7 grandchildren, Emma Woodyard, Elijah Stammler, Anna, Gabriella, Amelia and Sofia Barbins, and Jacob Hocker.

Frank graduated from Lafayette Collage in Easton PA, in 1995 and began his work career as an Industrial Engineer. He entered into the world of information technology in its infancy where he worked in Systems Engineering by working with Electronic Data Systems (EDS). Frank retired after 24 years with EDS in 1993.

Throughout his life, faith has been a major part of Frank’s life: he saw all that he did as a living out of God’s calling in the world. Within his congregations, he served various positions within the Church including Council President, Sunday School teacher, Treasurer, Finance Committee Chair as well as task forces and Ad Hoc committees. As a trained tax consultant, he helped numerous families and individuals navigate the tax code. In service to the greater Church, he served on the President’s Cabinet at Gettysburg Seminary, on task forces for the Susquehanna Synod of the ELCA, as President of the Seminary Ridge Historical Foundation in the years preceding the opening of that museum, and was responsible for the completion of the Historic Preservation study on Old Dorm. At the time of his death he was on the Board of Directors at SpiriTrust Lutheran.

Frank fostered relationship wherever he went. He cherished his 53 years with the N-SSA – a historically based competitive shooting organization. He served as treasurer and president of two teams and fostered numerous new members into the association. In recent years his relationships at Results Gym of Chambersburg were of profound importance. Frank loved all things mechanical, financial planning, carpentry, gardening with his wife, and mowing grass just because.

Services will be held Friday, October 9, 2015, at 11am with viewing beginning at 9:30am at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 2695 Luther Drive, Chambersburg PA. Interment will be on Saturday, October 10 at 11am in Hummelstown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a contribution to SpiriTrust Lutheran, 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. York, PA 17404. Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
