Frank K. McNew, 80, of Chambersburg, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born May 15, 1936 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Ray and Laura Bitner McNew.
Frank was a 1954 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School. He then served honorably in the U.S. Army. Frank was employed as an assistant manager for ACME grocery stores until his retirement in 1998. He enjoyed bowling and watching NASCAR, baseball and wrestling.
Frank is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gerda Schindewolf McNew, whom he married on March 9, 1962; three children, Sigurd McNew of Chambersburg, Diane Snyder and husband Ron of Chambersburg, and Michael McNew and wife Sherry of Fayetteville; three grandchildren, Joseph Snyder, Ronald Snyder and wife Jen, and Danielle McNew, all of Chambersburg; one great-granddaughter, Marilyn Snyder; five brothers; and three sisters. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister.
A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA. Memorial contributions may be made in Frank’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516 Topeka, KS 66675-8516.
