Fred Fore

April 19, 1926 — March 13, 2016

Fred Barmont Fore, 89, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehab Center, Chambersburg, PA. Born April 19, 1926, in McConnellsburg, PA, he was the son of the late Boyd B. and Janet Gobin Fore.

Fred was a 1944 graduate of McConnellsburg High School. A World War II veteran, he served in the Army Air Force from July 1944 to June 1946 as an aerial gunner on a B-24 Liberator Bomber. He later went on to graduate from Lebanon Valley College in 1950 with a degree in Business Administration and Economics. Fred was previously an insurance agent with Washington National Insurance Co., retiring in October 1990.
He was a life member of the American Legion Post 561 and a social member of the VFW 1599, as well as an AARP member since 1990. He also was a member of the Narrows Gun Club in Knobsville, PA for more than 61 years. Fred had a love of baseball and played for a short time in organized baseball with the Philadelphia Athletics in Petersburg, VA. He also pitched for Lebanon Valley College from 1947-1950, as well as playing in the West Shore League for the Harrisburg Firemen. He was an avid hunter with a love of the outdoors especially spending time in the Narrows during spring gobbler season. Fred was also a talented artist who enjoyed sketching coloring pages for his great-grandchildren to enjoy. His biggest love was spending time with his family enjoying outings and camping in their trailer.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jacqueline Books Fore, whom he married on April 20, 1957; four children, Jeffrey B. Fore (Wilma), Timothy B. Fore (Lori), Christopher J. Fore (Kelly), and LeAnne Fore Paugh (Vincent); 12 grandchildren, Brandy, Shawna, Breann, Tyler, Amanda, Erika, Jacob, Zach, Kyle, Jacob, Nolan, and Jason; 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother, John R. “Dick” Fore and wife Betty; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert “Jack” Fore and Boyd “Bud” Fore Jr., and one sister, Mary Catherine Fore.

A memorial service to honor Fred’s life will be held on March 17, 2016, at 11:00 am at the St Johns United Methodist Church, 3001 Warm Spring Rd, Chambersburg, PA 17202 with the Rev Daniel Wilt officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St Johns United Methodist Church, at the above address.
