Furman A. Cook, age 82, of Fayetteville, PA went to be with his Lord on April 24, 2013 at his home in Fayetteville, PA. Born July 1, 1930 in Fayetteville, PA, he was the son of the late Rennis and Mary McNew Cook.
Mr. Cook worked as an artillery mechanic at Letterkenny Army Depot for 36 years, retiring in 1986. He went on to work at Sears Auto Department and Penn National Golf Course. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, hunting , golfing, , hunting for lost golf balls, spending time with family, and his furry companion “Little Bear”. Mr. Cook was a member of the AMVETS Post 224 in Chambersburg. Committed to the end a defining the words “for better or worse”, he has been the primary caregiver to his wife, who suffered a stroke six years ago.
Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Vivian Fahnestock Cook, whom he married on January 3, 1950; three children, Dennis Cook, Sr. (wife Charla) of Beulah, CO, Debra Gilbert (husband Merle, Jr.) of Chambersburg, PA, Kelly Tolbert (husband Randy) of Fayetteville, PA; three grandchildren, Danett Shaffer (husband Leon) of Pond Bank, PA, Sam Cook (wife Lisa) of Mercersburg, PA, and Edward College, Jr. of Chambersburg, PA; three great- grandchildren, Zachary, Nichole, and Annalee; and one great-great grandson, Michael. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Paul, Robert, and Helen Cook.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 29, 2013 at 1 PM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA; where Rev. Staci Geesaman will officiate. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 28 in the funeral home from 6-8 PM and on Monday one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in Grindstone Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Fayetteville Church of God, 5276 Treher Rd. Fayetteville, PA 17222.
