G. Craig Whitfield

G. Craig Whitfield, 80, of Chambersburg, passed away at 11:38 AM on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at his home surrounded by family. Born on February 7, 1945, in Broad Top City, Huntington County, he was the son of the late Earl and Roberta Williams Whitfield.

Craig worked for Chambersburg Auto Body Shop for 24 years before taking ownership in 1988. He retired in December 2009, passing the business on to his children. His hobbies included watching his favorite teams the Washington Redskins and the Philadelphia Phillies, hunting, and spending time at his camp in Potter County, Pennsylvania, and his condo in Ocean City, Maryland, with friends and family.

He was a long-time member of American Legion Post 46, Amvets Post 224, the Marine Corps League, and the Chambersburg Club, where he previously served as president. He was also a member of The Elks in Renovo, Pennsylvania.

Craig is survived and will be missed by his loving wife of 62 years, Joyce A. Shatzer Whitfield; their daughter, Jodie Brown (fiancé Dwight Burkett); two sons, Brian Whitfield (wife Sue) and Shawn Whitfield (wife Marcia); seven grandchildren, Darren Brown (wife Ashley), Danielle Fitz (husband Micah), Cody Whitfield (wife Laken), Madison, Bryce, Emily, and Cade Whitfield; five great grandchildren; and five sisters, Darlene Fordyce, Sharlye Goshen, Donna Burns, Carol Shetter, and Patty Keith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Sidney, Gary, and Robert Whitfield; sister, Shirley Flook, and he also preceded his sister Harriet McCleaf in death by one day.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. Dr. A. Robert Cook will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 9:00 – 11:00 AM on Tuesday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org. Condolences and memories may be shared at geiselfuneralhome.com.
