G. Jones

G. Leroy Jones, 90, of Chambersburg, went to be with the Lord at 11:15 PM, Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Penn Hall Nursing Center. Born February 22, 1921 in Huntingdon, PA, he was a son of the late James A. and Ida Mae Gummo Jones. A US Army veteran of WWII, Leroy was a self-employed farmer in the Newville, PA area most of his life, retiring in 1984. He was a former member of First United Presbyterian Church in Newville where he served as a Trustee and an Ordained Elder. He was most recently a member of First United Methodist Church of Chambersburg. Leroy was a former member of the Penn and Mifflin Grange and the Pennsylvania Farmer's Association.
He is survived by his loving wife Dorothy M. Boring Jones, whom he married June 8, 1947; two daughters, Gail T. Vaughn and husband Richard of Chambersburg and Lois A. Hutchison and husband Stephen of Lewisberry; two grandchildren, Michelle Pasterick and Chad Vaughn; and one sister, Helen Mills of Huntingdon, PA. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Friday, July 22, 2011 at First United Methodist Church 225 South 2nd St. Chambersburg, PA 17201 where Rev. Dick Williams and Chaplain Brenda Doyle will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
