Gail Hilmer, age 68, passed away on August 18, 2016 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born November 6, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Sigmund and Margaret Mentzel. Gail was a 1965 graduate of Andrean High School and a 1969 graduate of Mercy College (now University of Detroit Mercy). Gail and Jim lived in Roselle, IL for most of their married years, before moving to Rockville, MD and finally retiring in Fayetteville, PA. Gail loved working with children. She was a children’s programmer in both the Roselle, IL an Addison, IL public libraries.
Surviving is her loving husband of 45 years, James Hilmer, whom she married on May 22, 1971, in Gary IN; a son, David Hilmer (wife Tatiana) of Silver Spring, MD; a brother, Kenneth Mentzel (wife Roberta) of Valparaiso, IN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Hilmer family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the many friends and family who supported and provided fellowship during her illness. We would also like to express our gratitude for the compassionate, gentle, and kind care provided by the Critical Care Unit of Chambersburg Hospital.
