Gail E. Nixon, 65, of Chambersburg, passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born August 14, 1950 in Ardmore, PA, she was a daughter of the late William and Mary Eckels Leonard.
Gail was a 1968 graduate of Haverford High School. A U.S. Army veteran, she served honorably as a dental assistant during the Vietnam era. Gail worked at County Market and then Weis Market until her retirement in 2011. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, going to the beach at Ocean City, NJ, and going to yard sales and craft shows. She also loved her grandchildren and her dog, Molly.
Gail is survived by her husband of 45 years, Larry R. Nixon, whom she married on April 15, 1970; five children, Christine McClenning (Michael) of Stephens City, VA, Becky Kline of Chambersburg, Robert Nixon of Chambersburg, Carol Hockenberry (Denny) of Chambersburg, and Karen Thomas (Arthur) of Chambersburg; seven grandchildren, Amber Robinson, Alyssa Robinson, Brady Jenkins, Dennis Hockenberry, Abbygale Hockenberry, David Thomas, and Hayden Thomas; two step-grandchildren, Rachel Wade and Shannon McClenning; four siblings, Les Leonard (Huncha) of DE, John Leonard (Eileen) of IL, Dianne Duren (Paul) of FL, and Chuck Leonard (Mary Ann) of PA. In addition to her parents, Gail is preceded in death by two grandchildren, Megan and David Robinson.
A memorial service will be held to honor Gail’s life at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 11, 2015 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Chaplain Adam Leeper will officiate. Inurnment will follow the service in Lincoln Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
